As homeschooling grows in popularity, so too do our curriculum choices!  There are pros and cons to this, as selecting curriculum can be completely overwhelming.  What can make it that much harder is searching and being unable to find much for the "average" student.  You know what I am talking about...many of us could care less about our students learning Latin or being able to name all the Roman Emperors.  We want our children to receive a solid, well rounded education, with a strong focus on basic academics and life skills.  We attend homeschool conventions and struggle to find a middle of the road curriculum that is easy to teach with, and provides a broad, general education.

There seems to be a fascination with ancient history, there are arguments over "rigor",and there is a desire to make high school the new college...with AP, CLEP, and dual enrollment seeming to be the Holy Grail. Why can't we let high school be high school so that we are not moving ahead too quickly and covering ground in a shallow way, or cramming for college credit?  What about all the young people who will never attend college, but will instead head to trade or technical schools, or straight into the work force?  Where is their curriculum?

If you are looking for strong basic skills for plain old ordinary students, we have suggestions for you!  The good news is that with homeschooling comes flexibility, and if you don't want to teach the Ancients to death, you don't have to!  Click on the links below for some terrific suggestions for curricula for the average learner, for the kid headed into a Blue Collar field, or for the parent who wants school to be what it used to be, long before the "Race to the Top" and SAT scores became the "end all and be all" of high school.  We offer suggestions for uncomplicated yet academically sound curricula for elementary all the way through high school.  If you know of one we should add, please be sure to contact us!
